Is this question asking if

any of the variables COULD be in area T. Not necessarily in area T TOGETHER?? because if E is the correct answer than that makes a lot of sense and I would've gotten this right. It's not possible for K to be in T because it cannot be in any detection area that J is in.

That is indeed what it's asking, which of them could ever be in t, not necessarily at the same time. When the question asks for a list of all the variables, any one of which could be in X, it is asking for a list of all of them that could ever be in X.
