Why D instead of B?

I struggled between these two answers, eventually settling on B because the author seems to view probate records as ambiguous and incomplete rather than 'revealing'. Nor does the author seem to mention difficulty in interpretation, so why is D correct? Thank you in advance

Same, why d and not b?

The difference between the is that B describes the probate records as clearly not useful, while D describes them as useful but imperfect. The latter is far closest to how the author treats them. Given that R's study is based entirely on them, and the author is broadly positive with some reservations about the study, she surely cannot think that it's Methology is ambiguous and outdated.
