Hi, given that his work is cartoonish, I'm not sure that we could reasonably call it subtle

I think it would be a bit of a stretch to point to his work as rebellious, although I don't think that the author would disagree with this I also don't see clear support for it. For that reason I think that saying the author is enthusiastic about something that is at best a tangential element would be a bit of a stretch.
