Difference between D and E?

I was between D and E but found D to be confusing so I chose E. Can someone please explain why D is correct and E in incorrect? Thankss.

Hi, D tells us that if we can only win when something we can't control works in our favor, we should assume it will work in our favor.

E tells us that if only one thing will work, we need to change our circumstances as much as possible to make it work. This is not what the passage said. The passage told us we should assume the best, not change circumstances.
