Answer choice E

To me, answer choice E explains the difference between the results in the first study but I don't see why it has an impact on the second, 12-year study, so I chose this one. Can someone explain this to me?

It doesn't have to impact the 12 year study. It calls into question the findings of the longer study, and by questioning the validity of those results, it can help resolve the discrepancy between those results and those in the shorter study
