I narrowed it down to A and E, and on a prayer selected E due to the word "because" in answer choice A that sounds like it established a new motivation. I reasoned that the latter speaker would disagree with this but the former may or may not because the motivation for theoretical research in the first speaker was a better understanding of the universe, not unforeseen practical application. Can I get an explanation on why the answer is not "A"?
