Hi, I think the support for D is that the paragraph is a series of three examples of different types of inferential error (overly weighting prior convictions, overly relying on vivid photos, and being confused by complex evidence). That said, I think we could attack C because the author is only referring to commonly held beliefs tangentially for the first of the three examples, not for all 3.
