Should we read the question stem before the stimulus?

Would it be better to read the question first and go into the stimulus with knowledge of what you are looking for? or would it be better to understand the stimulus first and then apply the question to what you already read?

Hi, good question, and ultimately one that doesn't have a firm answer. I think that the party line is to read the passage first and then the question, however I'll admit that I actually read the stem first. I think you can be successful using either method, and it's best to find what feels most comfortable to you.

That said, if you do read the stem first make sure you don't use that as an excuse to get lazy when reading the passage. Regardless of how you approach it it's critical to read the passage carefully.
