Hi, the question asks us what the lumpers would disagree with. When we are introduced to the lumpers in the first paragraph, we learn that they favor grouping a large number of similar species into one, that is, they favor an approach with fewer species, each of which has more internal variation. This is contrasted with the splitters, who favor more species, each of which would be more homogeneous.

Thus, we can safely think that the lumpers, who believe that we should lump potential species together, might actually believe there are fewer real species than are recognized today. To say there are more would be completely antithetical to their idea that we should lump similar birds into the same species.
