So does the rule that only L/T can be in 3 mean that L/T can be in other spaces and not JUST 3? Like L/T are the only option for 3 but L/T can work for other spaces as well?

That's exactly correct. The third spot is limited to L or T, but the limitation is on the spot, not on the variables. L or T could go elsewhere as long as the other one is in the third spot.
