Hi, the answer was E: that all cases of ball lighting have the same cause. The prof is using a counterexample to show that one thing can't be the cause. However, if there are multiple possible causes in different cases, this counterexample doesn't disprove the claim. So, the prof must believe that there can only be one cause of ball lightning.
