Wouldn't holistically analyzing folklore include determining the conditions under which it was created?

Not necessarily I dont think, and the way that A is written, it seems to be referring to examining the piece of folklore as a whole rather than trying to assess its merits. While one could see holistic assessment of a work as including a look at its context, I dont think this is the most natural reading, and I think that since there is another answer choice that more closely reflects this, I would not go with A.
