Why not C?

Why is C incorrect? C says "synchrony", which I believes more closely reflects what's mentioned in the passage. Meanwhile, what's the difference between C and D? They seem very similar to me. Thank you so much!

I think that the synchrony part does mirror the passage, but a few sentences after the part that we are asked to consider for this questions. C is saying that they can lay eggs at the same time, in rhythm with each other. D is saying that they reproduce at the same rate. It's possible to be in synchrony (e.g. laying eggs once a weak every November) but to reproduce at different rates (e.g. one lays one egg per week, and the other lays 5 eggs per week).
