Where in the passage can we find B. I thought it was in the start of the 2nd paragraph where sedimentary charcoal is mentioned hence my reasoning for choosing E.

I would look for the end of the passage, where we are told that pines are native to the highlands, but require human effort, burning, to be maintained in the lowlands.
