Please explain why d is the answer

Answer choice (D) is the only one in the passage that was not referenced. Remember, we are being asked which of the following answer choices was not characterized by the passage as a question to which linguists sought answers for. That doesn't necessarily mean that the passage referenced the actual answers, but merely that it referenced the questions themselves.
Answer choice (A) is referenced in lines 36-40.
Answer choice (B) is referenced in lines 36-40.
Answer choice (C) is referenced in lines 40-43.
Answer choice (E) is referenced in lines 40-43.
Answer choice (D) was never discussed. We are told that students believe a parent and child speaking on the topic of how to be a good son or daughter would have the congruent setting of "home" and would most likely speak only. We, however, are not discussing what topic the child and parents are likely to discuss when they are speaking Spanish.
Thus, answer choice (D) is the correct answer.
Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
