I already went through the video explanation prior to me posting this on the message board. Your reply didn't address my question at all.Naz on September 11, 2015
Okay, well, as you can see from the video, we've already deduced in the setup that the max films for Thursday is 3, the max films for Friday is 2 and the max films for Saturday is 2. So, without any restrictions we can have max 7 films. However, we are given the restriction of L is never shown again during the festival once G is shown. So, as shown in the video, starting with Saturday, we will try to maximize the films, so we'll place two films (Saturdays max). Since we know that Saturday cannot have both G & H and since we are trying to maximize the films, we must have L on Saturday and one of G or H. But, since we know once G shows up, then L cannot be played, we must put G after L on Saturday (as diagrammed in the video). So now we have maximized Saturday.
Next we go to Friday. We know that Friday cannot have both L and G. Since we are maximizing we will place H and L (since if we put H and G, we couldn't have L on Saturday). Now, normally we could have placed all three films on Thursday, but since we know that we cannot have L once G is placed, we can only go with L and H. That means that, at maximum, we are showing two films per day, meaning there are max 6 films total with the restriction given to us.
Therefore, 6 is the answer because, given the restriction plus the rules of the game, it is the max amount of films we can place into the festival.
Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
