To become a lawyer in Delaware, one must hold a degree from an accredited four-year university, make a passing score on the LSAT exam and complete an accredited law school program, and finally, complete the BAR exam with a passing score of 145 out of a possible 200.
The Delaware Bar Exam is a two-and-a-half-day exam consisting of the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), one Multistate Performance Test (MPT), and ten state essay questions.
The first day of the exam is the essay portion of the test, which consists of four essay questions drafted by the Bar Association of Delaware. The second day is when the Multistate Performance Test is offered. The third day consists of a 200 question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Examination which is split into two, three-hour sections.
The Delaware Bar Exam scores only the MEE and MPT components. The MBE is scored by the NCBE. The Delaware weighs the test by using 40% of the MBE and 60% of the written test portion.
The best way to prepare for the BAR exam in Delaware is through working through the material on the most common law subjects. For the Delaware Bar Exam specifically, the essay questions are likely to cover business associations, contracts, equity and other components (see below). The MBE questions include civil procedures, criminal law, and more.
